Fraction Calculator Guide
This calculator helps add, subtract, multiply, divide, simplify, and compare fractions. Enter the numerator and denominator for each fraction and select the operation you need.
How fraction calculations work
For addition and subtraction, fractions normally need a common denominator. Multiplication multiplies the numerators and denominators directly. Division is performed by multiplying the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second.
Example
For 1/2 + 1/3, the common denominator is 6, so the result is 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. The calculator can then simplify the result when possible.
Always check that a denominator is not zero. Mixed numbers should be converted consistently before applying the operation.
